Born in Ireland and from an affluent, artistic family background, Eileen Gray studied at the Slade School of Fine Arts. In 1902 she moved to France, where she trained in drawing and in the art of lacquer. At first Eileen designed furniture, but later she expanded her work into interior design. Eileen Gray was highly regarded by many leading artist of her time, including artists from the Bauhaus.
